SOFTBALL: Australian Softball Battery coach Karen Marr delivered a battery clinic for the regions softball pitchers and catchers in Bundaberg on Saturday.

Karen Marr who was appointed as National Pathway Battery Coordinator was in Bundaberg to work with Australian and Queensland squad member Chelsea Zunker.

While in the region she offered to run a clinic for select pitchers and catchers.

Four pitchers and catchers from each club were invited to attend.

Marr brings a wealth of international coaching experience to the role, including roles with the Dutch Open Women’s, U19 & U22 teams and, most recently, the Chinese U19 Women’s team.

Before the National team appointments, Marr held an Assistant Coach role with the University of Louisville in the NCAA Softball program. With her assistance, the team reached the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history (2004) and consecutively for the next six years.

The team appeared in the national rankings for the first time in school history in 2006, reaching as high as No. 17. The Cardinals were also ranked in the top-25 during the 2007 season. In 2009 the Cardinals were ranked 14th and continued this in 2010, being ranked in the top 25 for most of the season.

U of L won the Conference USA regular-season title in 2005, the BIG EAST regular-season title in 2006 and won the BIG EAST tournament in 2007.

During her time at Louisville, the Cardinals impacted the school record books, producing the lowest Earned Run Average, the most strikeouts, wins and shutouts in school history.
