GRANTS: Students from Xavier Catholic College stepped out onto their respective sporting fields in style this month, thanks to a $2000 Hervey Bay RSL Community Grant.
The grant enabled the teams to don new uniforms and help cover the cost of attending the events.
Starting with the girls’ netball team, who trained exceptionally hard in the lead up to the Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Netball (QISSN) competition.
Xavier Netball coordinator Alison McGovern said the event was attended by Catholic Colleges throughout Queensland.
A team of 10 players and two staff represented the school.
“This carnival celebrates the proud tradition of sport in catholic education, where competition supports an atmosphere of sportsmanship, respect and fellowship,” Alison said.
The grant also helped to cover new jerseys for the boys’ Rugby team who represented the school well at The Confraternity Carnival, which is the premier rugby league competition for Catholic and independent secondary schools in Queensland.
Both events were held over the July school holidays.
Congratulations to all the students involved!
