GYMSPORTS: On Sunday, the 29th of May, the first wave of 2022 competition acrobatics teams from Maryborough GymSports competed at Robertson Gymnastics Academy (Brisbane) in the Southern Queensland Qualifier #2.

Level 1 Pair – Lucy Staib and Ruby Theuerkauf

Level 1 Trio – Gabriella Rossi, Khloe and Mikayla Thomas
Level 3 Pairs – Darcy Waterson & Rachael Meaby; Kenzie Brown & Ashleigh Vicic

(Trained by Coach Kelsey Connell)

In the stage 1 session, the groups were up against some fierce competition from almost 40 other teams, all of who were Brisbane clubs.

The teams showed they were off to a good start and put out their best routines, including many new skills. 2022 has been a change to the teams, with many new groupings, athletes and routine requirements. The teams have been working hard the last couple of months to have their performances up to scratch to be scored.

This competition was also a qualifier for the QLD State Championships in August. Kenzie and Ashleigh have qualified with a score of 50.50. It was a surprise for the newest team, the trio, consisting of all new members to acrobatics. They were a slither away of 0.6 from the qualification score.

With many more competitions this season, the teams will now go back to the drawing board, taking on the feedback from the judges to improve their routines for their next competition in July.
