FOOTBALL: Sunbury teams were out and about last Saturday giving their all; here are their match reports.
u/9: Teammates Blues and Whites versed each other on a sunny Saturday morning. Huge thanks to Cooper’s Mum for helping with the Whites due to the Coach being unavailable. It was a hard-fought, entertaining game by both teams. The Blues consolidated on their passing and positional play. Special mention of Levi for his team plays with a great pass to Hallee for her to shoot into an open goal. This lifted Hallee’s morale after only her second game back after breaking her collarbone in the very first match of the season and highlighted the team spirit the Blues are developing. Jodi had a great game up front while Sam put in a solid and physical effort in defence, helping the team keep a clean sheet.
The Youth Girls started their semi-final campaign with a nervous start against an experienced Tinana Team. Mia once again did an excellent job in goals. Makayla, Kendall, Evie and Keiana all tried hard and never gave up in defence. Taylee and Alivia, as always, were everywhere and kept the midfield moving forward. Han, Zarlee, Elleaha and Jenna in attack with wing players Kymmy, Ivy Tahlia also did well in attack. There were some great attacks, but the experienced Premier League goalkeeper for Tinana was on the ball. Some missed opportunities showed the Blues weren’t backing down, with Alivia getting one in the back of the net for the Blues with much jubilation from her team. Well done, coach Greg and the girls who started late in the competition but certainly improved with each game and to end up playing semi-finals is a credit to them all. The Club is very proud.
u/12: In their first year of competition have had a really good season. The team combined well to end up 2nd on the ladder during the normal season. The Blues travelled to Hervey Bay to tackle a very strong outfit, Fraser Flames Blaze. The Blues started nervously while the Blaze were on fire, and although not giving up and trying hard, the Blues were no match. The Team will have a second opportunity on Saturday and hopefully can advance through to Grand Final. The Coach, Parents and Club are all very proud of the Teams performance this season and win or lose; the kids have done a fantastic job in their first season of competition.
u/13: The team regrouped after losing a couple of players and started the 2021 season very well. Midway through the competition, the team was in 2nd place and doing well—the team adjusted to the new coaching staff and new players. With limited numbers for some games, the team continued to compete and were still in the top 4. The Blues travelled to Hervey Bay to tackle KSS Jets but lost the match 2-1. The kids played their hearts out in a nail-biting match. Coaches Sal and Dion are very proud that the team with no substitutes on many occasions finished 4th out of 10 teams and put in a fantastic effort each week. The kids showed sportsmanship and great club pride. The Club is very proud of you all too.
u/14: The Blues travelled to Hervey Bay Sports Precinct to take on top of the table Bayside. The kids clicked from the start with accurate passing and possession. Communication was strong, teamwork was amazing. It would be very hard to name a standout player as all combined very well. Ewan Anderson and Hunter Murdoch scored two goals for a 4-1 win to advance straight to the Grand Final. Congratulations, Grant & Brett and team members: Jacob, Byron, Cye, Matthew, Nate, Piper, AJ, Jai, Cooper, Ryan, Ewan, Hunter, Jaido, Isaac and Jack. Good Luck in the GF.
u/16: Both teams played nail-biting, heart-stopping, edge of seat football. Both games went to extra time and a penalty shootout. Unfortunately, the Blues lost the shootout but got another shot at making the GF this Saturday. The Whites won their penalty shootout to advance this week to play the Blues in the knockout prelims. Whatever the outcome, Sunbury will be the winner. Seriously these two teams have set the benchmark all season. Great Coaching staff, great Parent support and fantastic players. Well done, Mick & Trevor, Kaitlyn & Braith. Thank you to those who helped out WBL2 and Premier League during the season. The Club is very proud of you all.
GO BLUE!
