FOOTBALL: On a chilly Saturday morning, football kicked off again after a long break. All the kids were excited to be back on the pitch again.
u/8: The Blues team ( Baylee, Dekoda, Isabelle, Charlee, Rafeal, Felix and Brax) held out the strong Tinana team for quite some time and almost scored with several shots on goal. Much celebration when they did score. It was a great team game with all players contributing and gaining confidence to attack and defend—well-done, kids.
u/9: Saturday saw another perfect day for a game of football. With Ian in charge of the Whites for this week, the team took on the strong Granville team. The entire team was raring to go after the midseason break. With a strong effort in defence, the team had numerous shots on goal, including some great passing in midfield. Awesome effort, kids. The Hotshot Award went to Max, who ran his heart out all game.
Youth Girls: There was great defence from Evie, Alivia, Makayla and Keiana to keep the game scoreless for 30 minutes. Mia was awesome in goals once again. Taylee, Han, Tahlia, Zalee and Kendall controlled the middle while Jenna, Ivy, Kimmy, Aleah and Tahliah attacked upfront. Coach Greg was very proud of the effort against much older opposition in the pouring rain. Well done, girls.
u/11: With players missing, the Whites had to step up a few notches, and everyone worked hard. Noah showed some great footwork in midfield, while Makayla, Evie and Seth were awesome in defence. New player Lucas had his best game. Prue and Dilshair worked hard. Jenna got involved in helping Noah and Aleaha. Aleaha had an outstanding game and was everywhere.
The Blues were slow to start, but Bryce was awesome in goals. Sam took control of the backline working with Cooper, Slade and Makayla. Oscar Hunter and Taylee were great in midfield. Lachlan, Ryan and Jacob were incredible upfront. Sam and Lachlan swapped roles, with Sam working his magic in attack.
u/12: The Blues were in Hervey Bay to verse the KSS Raptors and secured a 1-0 win, with Rhylan Pendleton scoring the match’s only goal. Well done, kids.
u/14: The Blues travelled to Hervey Bay to tackle the Warriors on their home turf. The team was a little rusty to start with after having a 5-week break. They soon picked up some good passing and solid defence to come away with a 3-0 win.
u/16: It was great to get the team back together after what felt like a long layoff while enjoying school holidays. The u/15 Sunbury Whites came up against one of the competition form teams, which was a huge ask first game back. Jasper continued to dominate down the right edge causing many problems for the opposition defence and set up a golden opportunity in the first five minutes; despite Blake’s best efforts, his shot found the woodwork, and Bayside survived a big scare. From there, the game was largely an arm wrestle. Bayside pressed hard and eventually found an opening to lead at the halftime break 1-0. In the second half, the Whites gave great effort and asked plenty of Bayside defence; unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the team could not peg back the first-half goal by Bayside and the game ended 1-0. Riley Colls in goals had a huge game competing really well. Riley Lewis had his best game of the year defending and intercepting many passes, while Oliver Coronel also had a big game, keeping Bayside attacks at bay. Mick and Trev are hugely proud of this group; they continue to show great resilience and passion for the game. Bring on next week.
The Blues continued with their role on top of the ladder combining for a 2-1 win.
Wishing Sunbury player Alivia Lewis good luck with the Wide Bay Team playing at the State Championships being held in Toowoomba this week.
