FUTSAL: A team of seven local Under 10s Futsal players that were selected to attend the National Schools Futsal Tournament has proudly been supported by the Hervey Bay RSL Community Grants program.
The team received $3500 to help cover the cost of uniforms and tournament fees for the highly anticipated competition in Brisbane recently, and they didn’t let the region down.
Coach Grant Yeatman said the financial assistance helped the team achieve incredible results.
“Our team put in an amazing effort and performed well against very strong opposition with three wins, one draw and two losses,” Grant said.
“We ended in a points tie, forcing the decision to come down to goal difference to make the quarter-finals… unfortunately, we narrowly missed out!
“It is such a huge privilege to be asked to represent your state, but it is not an easy financial feat for families.
“The players did the work and got recognised for their talents, and the grant gave them the opportunity to compete. The entire team are very grateful.”
Although it was sad the team didn’t make the quarter-final, Grant said there was a surprise for the players at the end of the day.
“Although a disappointing end for a very capable team, we have since returned home to find out that several of our players were picked out by scouts to form part of the Australian team that will tour Fiji in July 2023!
“This will be a fantastic opportunity to further develop their skills and game.”
