WEEKEND SPORT: Happy Friday, guys, another long weekend greets us as we prepare to commemorate Anzac Day on Monday.
There is plenty of local sport to check out this weekend.
RUGBY LEAGUE: Fraser Coast mini/mod rugby league players take to the field tonight at Eskdale Park in Maryborough to start their season. The Hervey Bay Seagulls host Wests at Stafford Park while Wallaroos play ATW in Bundaberg in seniors’ action. In the final game, the Brothers are up against Easts.
AFL: Anzac Day weekend will feature a top of the table clash between Brothers Bulldogs and the Hervey Bay Bombers at Brothers Sports Ground on Saturday.
Both teams are undefeated after two rounds of competition and will want to exert their dominance.
In the other round match, Bay Power hosts ATW at Keith Dunne Oval in Hervey Bay, with both teams searching for their first win of the season.
The first bounce for each match is at 3.30 pm.
Junior games are also being on Saturday morning at Keith Dunne Oval.
FOOTBALL: After breaking for school holidays and Easter, Premier League football returns to the Wide Bay region this weekend.
Round six men’s premier league games kick off on Saturday, with S.C. Corinthians hosting Granville, while Bingera hosts Sunbury at Martens Oval.
Doon Villa will play the United Park Eagles in Maryborough, while the round match will be a top of the table clash between Across the Waves and the Fraser Flames at the ATW Football Club.
Three teams are undefeated to start the season Across the Waves, United Park Eagles and the Fraser Flames. Across the Waves is a goal differential of 21, nine ahead of the Flames.
The women’s premier league will also have great matchups with Across the Waves playing the Fraser Flames on Friday night. Bingera will play Sunbury while Tinana host the United Park Eagles.
On Saturday, the United Warriors travel to Bundaberg to play Diggers.
Junior football also returns with matches on Saturday.
HOCKEY: Fraser Coast Hockey gets underway in Maryborough on Saturday with Magpies laying Bolts and Granville up against Tinana in the women’s competition. In the men’s, CBR takes on Granville.
