BOMBERS AND EAGLES CLAIM WIDE BAY PREMIERSHIPS

AFL: The 2023 AFL Wide Bay season ended yesterday, with junior and senior grand finals played in Hervey Bay.

The senior men’s final produced an epic encounter and a fitting way for the season to end.

The Hervey Bay Bombers had to fight to the final minute to beat a determined Brothers Bulldogs.

Playing on their home field, they closed out the match 6.11-47 to 5.3-3 to claim another premiership.

In the women’s decider, favourites Waves Eagles made it two from two, defeating Bay Power 3.7-25 to 2.2-14.

It was the fifth in a row for the Hervey Bay Bombers in reserves, defeating Brothers Bulldogs 15.8-98 to 2.1-13.

Hervey Bay Bombers also won the under-17s with a 9.12-66 to 1.2-8 victory over Waves Eagles.

Hervey Bay Bombers would always win the under-14 decider, with the Black and Red teams facing off. In a tight tussle, it was the red team causing the upset, winning 7.8-50 to 7.6-48.

In the first final of the day, the Hervey Bay Bombers defeated Brothers Bulldogs 3.2-20 to 1.4-10 to claim the under-12 title.
