AFL WIDE BAY 2023 FIXTURES RELEASED

Media release from AFL Queensland.

AFL: The highly anticipated 2023 AFL Wide Bay fixtures have been released, with the Takalvans Senior Women’s competition playing alongside all other grades for the first time.

The opening round will see a grand final rematch in both senior competitions on April 15, with ATW Eagles taking on Bay Power in the women’s and Brothers Bulldogs looking to go one better against Hervey Bay Bombers in the men’s.

Bay Power and Hervey Bay Bombers will again represent the Fraser Coast region, with Brothers Bulldogs and Across the Waves, Eagles flying the flag from Bundaberg. The Maryborough Bears will once again field a team in the reserves.

Round two will see local derbies in Hervey Bay and Bundaberg, with the senior men’s and women’s games being played in a special ANZAC Day commemorative round on Tuesday, April 25.

All clubs will enjoy two bye rounds for the regional and state representative fixtures at the end of June.

Participation, Program and Competitions Manager Kieron Hyndman said these games were a great opportunity for players in the Wide Bay region.

“It’s a massive opportunity for local players to play against the best in the comp and provides a pathway into the South Queensland team and possibly even the state team, which makes it return this year,” he said.

“With our local junior numbers growing, it’s fantastic to be able to highlight the pathway for not only males but also females from our U12s mixed competition right through to senior Men and Women.”

To wrap up the season, the Wide Bay Best and Fairest Stedman Medal will be held in Bundaberg, where all clubs will come together to celebrate individual achievements on and off the field.
